Comilla Victorians lose the victory against Chittagong Vikings

A crucial batting attainment from the Chittagong Vikings'Top-four helped them chase down 183 with six wickets in hand against Comilla Victorians in the Bangladesh Premier League game at the Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium in Chittagong on Monday 21 Nov, 2016. Chittagong got off to a brisk start with Dwayne Smith to beat an opponent clinically 14 off the very first over Habibur Rahman. They raced to 30 in the first three overs before Smith was trapped lbw by Mashrafe Mortaza.

Tamim Iqbal was joined by Anamul Haque (40) as the duo batted sensibly to keep the innings moving forward. The 62-run collaboration kept Chittagong afloat in their hunt for a third win. Chittagong suffered a huge blow in the 10th over when Anamul was bowled by Ryan ten Doeschate. The all-rounder then gave his team another big breakthrough as he got rid of Tamim for a 27-ball 30.

The mid-innings an unsteady movement from side to side meant the onus fell on the experienced duo of Shoaib Malik and Mohammad Nabi. They did well to nullify the Sohail Tanvir threat and brought the equation down to 18 off the last two overs. But the left-arm pacer dismissed Malik off the first ball of his last over to even the scales and end the threatening 64-run stand. Nabi refused to get bogged by the wicket and launched the left-arm pacer over the square leg fence. The pressure clearly showed on Tanvir as he bowled a full toss above the waist which was adjudged no ball.

With eight needed off the final over Nabi hammered a four and a six off Mohammad Saifuddin to seal the game in his team's favour. Earlier, Khalid Latif (76), Imrul Kayes (36) and Ahmed Shehzad (40) lifted Victorians to a more than competitive total with their useful contributions. Opting to bat, Comilla lost Nazmul Hossain Shanto in the fifth over when he was bowled by Taskin Ahmed.

Latif and Kayes then added 68 runs for the second wicket in the next eight overs to lift the team to a dominating position. Kayes played the perfect second fiddle to Latif, who went on to get his half century, off 37 balls, with two consecutive boundaries. However, some smart work by Anamul brought his downfall after his 53-ball stay. Latif ducked a full toss but was outside the crease when the wicketkeeper knocked the stumps down with a direct hit in the 19th over. Latif's dismissal brought Ryan ten Doeschate to the crease, who hit one six to score 9 off 3 to end the innings on a high. Shehzad too played his part and scored briskly with the help of five boundaries.
